Bayley House – a piece of history in Pilot Hill

In 1861, A.J. Bayley built the beautiful Bayley House in Pilot Hill. Bayley built the house/mansion thinking that it could be used as a hotel when the Central Pacific Railroad came to town. The railroad did not come to town, but the historic mansion still stands today. It was a 10,000 sq foot mansion with over 22 rooms, and 6 fireplaces. Rosewood and mahogany woods were imported from England and milled on site. Underneath the mansion was an expansive wine cellar. The second floor had a large dining room that turned into a ball room for entertaining.

The Bayley house is in need of restoration before it will be open to the public. But if you are driving through Pilot Hill, you can see it from Hwy 49.

What an amazing piece of real estate!
